Tantrums are another very easy invert to learn and should be another one of your "firsts". The tantrum is really just a backflip over the wake, like you would do off a diving board or on a trampoline. This will be one of the ONLY tricks that I tell you to actually "let off" on your edge. The "pop" of the tantrum should actually feel like you are on a pair of roller blades skating backwards... and then you hit a curb... OUCH. |

1. Take a wide cut outside of the wake... 15-20 feet out or so. Make sure you are edging hard on your heelside approach. About 2-3 feet before you reach the wake, let off of your heelside edge and flatten out. |

2. Ride up the wake flat. As you reach the top of the wake let go of the handle with your back hand (left hand if your right foot forward). Push off of the top of the wake with your toes as you throw your head backwards towards the wake. The key to this trick is making sure you shift your weight to your TOES... not your heels...TODD. |

3. You will be able to spot your landing very early on this trick, so make sure to keep your eyes open...TODD... I think a good looking tantrum is one that is completely laid out. So, arch your back. Also, I always try to keep my elbow close to my side, almost in a flexed position. This keeps the tantrum from getting away from you. Another way to do the tantrum is to spin it faster by bringing your knees to your chest early. This is the way you will want to do your tantrum if you plan on grabbing it (unless you have 8 foot arms). |

4.
Land the trick on your heelside edge. SWEEEEEEEET !!! It's about time...
TODD. Now... take your tantrum in to the flats. Or, throw in an indy grab (remember to bring your knees to your chest right off the wake). After you have this dialed, take it to revert by passing the handle to your rear hand or do a Whirlybird by throwing your body more towards the boat instead of straight over the wake. HAVE FUN, RIDE SAFE, GO BIG. -Ronnie |
